Posted by Sienna Swim Team on

Welcome to our new series – WOMEN WE ADMIRE. Here, we're shining a light on the incredible women within our community and our Sienna Swim Collective. Whether they're friends, leaders, creators, mothers, daughters (or all of the above!), these women are truly inspiring, and we want to create a space to showcase their magnificence. We are beyond grateful for the special community we're building through our brand – a diverse group of women achieving remarkable feats and inspiring others by simply being themselves and following their dreams. This monthly series aims to spotlight women we love and invite you to connect with them. We're all about uplifting others, celebrating successes and showing how truly special, layered and powerful we are as women. *Read other profiles in our series: Taylor Hayden & Ivana Cook Burbage.

Amy Timmerman (@amy.timmerman) is a surfer and entrepreneur based in Mexico. In 2021, she turned down an offer from a top-10 law school to pursue her dream life of surfing in tropical locations. Since then, Amy has founded two companies: Save Our Surf and Dream Life Trips. Beyond her passions for ocean conservation, surfing, traveling, and creating stunning content, Amy is teaching and inspiring other women how to live their dream lives too, and we are here for it!

We sat down with Amy to ask a few questions and for words of advice she would share as the third woman to be featured in our new series:

 -

Q. WHAT IS A RECENT SUCCESS OR ACHIEVEMENT THAT YOU'RE PARTICULARLY PROUD OF?
A. Last fall, I started my company Dream Life Trips (@dreamlifetrips on Instagram), and I am so incredibly proud of it!  Through week-long all-women group trips to Mexico, I show people that their dream life is possible! The trip isn’t just a surf trip - it is a week to set the women up for achieving the life of their dreams. During the week we surf, do yoga, content creation, participate in a beach cleanup, foster sisterhood, and dive into the logistics of moving abroad. I am a mentor to the girls who come on the trip, and it is my deepest honor to be in service to women who are seeking a different life for themselves but aren’t sure how to start. I am also so proud of the Dream Life Alumni girls, there's now 24, and they are all just so incredible! Women who’ve come on the trip are taking huge steps in achieving their goals- from surfing more, moving abroad, starting content creation, getting modeling jobs, starting businesses, and more!

Q. WHAT INITIATIVES OR CAUSES ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT, AND HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THEM?

A. As a surfer and ocean-lover, I’m SO passionate about ocean health and preventing plastic pollution. I actually founded my company Save Our Surf (@saveoursurf on Instagram) to tackle this issue! Save Our Surf works in coastal communities worldwide to remove plastic from the ocean through beach cleanups.  We are also a surf brand creating apres-surf wear ethically and sustainably, and we remove one pound of plastic from the ocean with every item purchased.

Q. ENVISION YOUR IDEAL DAY. WHERE WOULD YOU BE AND WHAT ACTIVITIES WOULD YOU DO?

A. I am SO lucky that I’ve created a life where everyday is my ‘ideal day’! This is what my usual days look like at my home in Sayulita, Mexico: I wake up around 7am and go to yoga with my friends, we go to a cute cafe and work, then sauna/ice bath at a wellness space. We then go for a late-afternoon surf, make dinner and watch sunset on the beach! Pinch me!  Especially as someone who grew up in a farm town in rural Canada, dreaming about a life like this…. I am SO grateful I get to call this my ‘real life’ every single day!

-
Q. IF YOU COULD IMPART ONE PIECE OF WISDOM TO YOUNG WOMEN, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE?

A. To live the life you want, not the life that others want for you. The reason I founded Dream Life Trips is to help women realize that their dream lifestyle is possible; that they don’t have to work the typical 9-5, ‘climb the corporate ladder’ and stay in their hometowns. A life of abundance, purpose, living in alignment with your passions, and being happy with your daily life IS possible.  A big theme of Dream Life Trips is living what you truly want to do, and not basing your life decisions on what you think you ‘should’ do because of societal pressures, parents, teachers, or others' expectations of you. If you’re always living based on other people, you aren’t truly living YOUR life!

-
Q. WHEN CREATING CONTENT ON YOUR INSTAGRAM AND TIKTOK, WHAT EMOTIONS DO YOU AIM TO EVOKE?
A. My content aims to inspire girls to live a life of their dreams, and to show them that it is possible. If I can do it, anyone can. I hope my content inspires girls to go after their wildest dreams!
-
Q: HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS AND HAS YOUR DEFINITION EVOLVED OVER TIME?
A. I grew up in a small town in Canada, and followed the typical corporate/academic path until I finished University. Like most of us, I was told by society that ’success’ was climbing the corporate ladder, getting degrees, making a lot of money, etc.  But I slowly evolved away from that lifestyle as I realized that was not MY definition of success. As I deepened into my spirituality, connected more with nature and myself, I created my own version of success: giving back to the planet and people, being happy with my lifestyle each day I wake up, being able to surf and do yoga, having deep friendships, living in community, and being in touch with my body and nature!
-
Q: YOUR FAVORITE SIENNA SWIM STYLE/S?
A. I love the Malibu surf suit. It’s my go-to for surfing!
